Have you ever thought about joining a choir, but have some worries?
We’re always asking people, “Do you love to sing?”, but perhaps there’s a more important question… “Do you have any concerns about singing in a choir?” We’ve put together a page to address some common concerns that new choir singers may have. Check it out here.
Why I Love LWAC
I started LWAC in September 1995. Chuck Stark Placed an announcement in the Mokena newspaper through the park district. I was singing in two church choirs at the time, and I wanted to sing a different kind of music and be part of a community choir.
I joined LWAC in January of 2020 after doing a musical with Elisé and Frankie, and boy am I so glad I met them and found LWAC! After being in choirs from 4th grade - senior year of college I was so lost without an ensemble before this group. I love that we are a non-audition community group and can perform at a very high level and make amazing music. The variety of people I have met through LWAC and the stories they have makes every Monday night a wonderful experience.
I have been a member of LWAC for 28 years. What I love the most is the wonderful people who have become friends. Also, each week we can put aside our unfinished tasks, concerns, and any differences we may have to meld our voices into one as we work to perfect our music.
This is my first year with LWAC. In my teens and 20s music was the major driving force in my life. As I entered the workforce, married, and started our family, musical performance opportunities moved to the back burner. From time to time I found opportunities to perform, but it never was the experience I remembered, and the joy of singing did not mean to me what it did when I was fully involved in my youth. Now, at 65 years old, I have rediscovered that professional experience and love of performance I always loved. LWAC is everything I love about being part of group bringing joy to others as I experience that joy myself.
I joined in 2023 after being directed toward the group from a local friend familiar with the chorale. I sought somewhere to sing regularly with other people who love to sing and I happily found it with LWAC.
I joined the Lincoln-Way Area Chorale the second year of its existence. One of the reasons I joined was because, after singing in choirs from age 7, I found myself in a position where I was no longer singing. I noticed in our local newspaper that LWAC had been established by Chuck Stark for local singers who were in the same position I was in. I called Chuck and the rest is history.
The Chorale has been very important to me since I joined, especially now that I am retired and have more time on my hands. I am grateful for the friendships I have made and the leadership of the directors, (even when I disagreed with them!).
Thank you, LWAC, for 28 wonderful years!
So... I joined LWAC in 2015 (I think, maybe 2014?) but I had wanted to join for many years! My kids had been very active in the Lincoln-Way High Schools' music departments and that allowed me to have, at least, a vicarious connection to music but then...they graduated and left home (!) forcing me to find a genuine outlet on my own. With their strong encouragement, I reached out to some of my music parent connections and they set me on a path to LWAC. Since joining I have done a six-year term on the board serving as secretary, chaired a couple of committees, helped dress everyone and hosted the Library committee's work to provide everyone with our beloved music. I have made so many friends and found such joy from being connected with the chorale that it is now hard to imagine life without it. LWAC makes my life happier.
Having lived in Frankfort for many years, I have known about the LWAC from friends and media posts. I never thought about joining. Until .... I came to the past Christmas Concert encouraged by an invite from someone I sing with in the Joliet Junior College Community Choir. What a wonderful concert and a wonderful group of singers. I thought I would join for the Spring Earth Songs Concert. This was truly an uplifting musical experience. I plan to be back in the Fall.
I have been with LWAC since 1996, only missed original concert. I love LWAC because it challenges me and gives me amazing joy when I sing. I have been blessed with 3 wonderful directors. Charles Stark, Gregory Day and Elisé Greene. I have done solos, been in ensembles, and sung at outside events. I have enjoyed people I have met and singing with them is sooooooooooooo much. I have learned so much about singing, warming up, and technique, which makes me a better singer.
I have been in the choral since the very beginning- 28 years. My husband, Roger, and I originally joined because we both loved to sing, and because Chuck Stark was directing. And then, it became more than just the love of singing- it became more like a family! When Roger passed away suddenly, the choir enveloped me in love and care and concern like I shall never forget! We have had many changes over the years, but we all still love to sing, and we have a lot of FUN!!
I joined the Lincoln Way Area Chorale during the Fall season in 2000 and am now in my 23rd year. Singing with the Chorale has been a joyous experience. We sing a varied assortment of music; classical, sacred, pop, Holiday favorites, Broadway Show tunes etc. Singing is therapeutic on many levels. Being part of an 80 to 100 voice choir is a wonderful feeling. The sound we make together resounds in my soul and at times moves me to tears. Many Chorale members have become close friends over the years. LWAC is an especially 'high note' in my life.
What I love about being a member of LWAC is singing with other people that have a passion for singing, being able to challenge myself with new music, and being able to sing with my parents. I have been a member of LWAC since 2006 Christmas season.
